3PO Project Year 2 Report

3PO Project Year 2 Report

The 3PO consortium has recently published its Year 2 Report. Building on the findings from the first year, this latest report outlines significant progress in developing tools, training materials, and guidance to protect police officers, staff, and their families from online harms.

Key findings from the second year include:

  • Specific risks faced by frontline officers and staff: This includes online abuse, doxing, threats, and reputational damage stemming from their professional roles.
  • Prevalence of online harms: A national survey revealed the extent of online abuse experienced by police personnel and its impact on well-being.
  • Experiences of police officer's children: Teenage children of police officers demonstrate awareness of online risks and utilise protective measures, but also engage in potentially risky online behaviours.
  • Managerial perspectives: Interviews with police managers highlighted the need for improved organisational support and policies to address online harms.

As 3PO moves into its final year, the focus will be on finalising these solutions and making them widely available, ensuring officers and their families are better equipped to navigate the complex online environment.
